Duke Nukem, is He relevant? [Opinion]

Ready for a good old fashion opinion post? GOOD!
So let me start by prefacing this with the following, I am only 19 years old. this means that Duke Nukem Forever has
been “in development” for the majority of my life, and I have never played any Duke Nukem game. Thus the aura and hype around the Duke Nukem Franchise really doesn’t color my understanding of Duke Nukem Forever.
So from what I have learned Duke Nukem is supposed to match Kratos and Chuck Norris in the realm of super macho, manly, dripping with testosterone, having 3 ways, getting samiches, and ripping aliens enemies new holes than you can shake an over sized uber weapon at. At first i was kind of interested in Duke Nukem, Gearbox (makers of Borderlands) is the development team currently working on Forever. They promised a game that captured a 90s vibe in gaming and and would do so with a charmingly immature sense of humor to boot.
Overtime however that image has faded into something less flattering, from what I have seen Forever promises to be the single most immature, irrelevant, fart / penis / sex joke filled game that has ever had the displeasure of hitting a shelf. Rather then a charmingly immature the game borders on sexist, with Capture the Flag being Capture the Babe in which you have to smack the “babe” so she stops fussing while you capture her. While one crude joke here and there would be funny, constant crude immature jokes is just that. Crude and immature, and Duke isn’t commanding the audience he once did. For a game that has been in development for over 10 years no one thought that maybe his audience has also aged 10 years and maybe they don’t have the same sense of humor now then they did back then.
Duke’s crude humor aside the game doesn’t look like something that has been worked on for 10 years, it looks like a standard shooter with more boobs then innovation. Gearbox has shown us montages of duke doing everything from taking a piss to paying stripers but little in the way of true game play. What we have seen is simple FPS, straight of the 90s. And while retro is nice, there is a reason the industry has grown and changed.
All in all its seems Duke is doomed to be a figure of the past, while it may have been a nice gesture by Gearbox to resurrect the unpublishable game, maybe there was a reason Duke never saw the light of day.

Uhhh never played any of them either lol. But the communities been drumming this up since I guess 3Drelms announced it in 2001. I think its more or less a running joke then a serious game. No one in their right mind would take a game thats been in development for 10+ years seriously.

It saddens me that Gearbox wasted there last production cycle on this FAILacoster instead of working on Borderlands2! These are the times when a horrible game can mean the death of a studio. 2K Games must have given them a truck full of money and a get out of LAME developerville free card for working on this snotfest! That being said, I can’t wait to play this game…….. What? It’s the Duke XD

I have never liked how gamers have been stereotyped, many view the industry as a big frat party of immature boys and it holds our industry back. Games like Duke Nukem dont help those stereotypes =/

From what i understand Gearbox’s CEO was a fan of the games back in the day, and i think it was kind of a labor of love in that regards. I dont think this game will harm Gearbox, but i agree i would have rather seen them working on something a bit more interesting like a Borderlands sequal.
