‘Cynthia’s Nightmare’ Pt. 3
“Her blood pressure has become stable, but she does need attention, nurse; please make sure she gets plenty of rest.” “yes, doctor”.
‘Where am I?’ “ma’m, you suffered blunt trauma to your head and a mild concussion; you are at Mercy Hospital”. ‘How did you find me?’ “911 received a call from your phone…” ‘WHERE IS MY BABY SONYA?!!? …HELP!! …HELP ME!!!’.
“Ma’m, you are going to need to calm down, you cannot panic…” ‘I NEED MY BABY!!! HELP ME!!’ “Ma’m, you NEED to calm down, NOW.”
A calm feeling in total darkness engulfed her as she felt the prick of the syringe invade her skin.
Cynthia’s eyes started to open allowing the ambient light to enter her irises. A sudden muscular spasm recoiled her body forcefully up and down. Once again, Cynthia attempted to open her eyes only to be greeted by a soft yellow glow overpowering her blurry vision.
She whispered to herself, ‘I can see shapes now but everything is still blurry… I can’t make sense of where I am but something is familiar though… where am I?’
Suddenly, Cynthia is startled by the sound of a hospital intercom system. ‘Oh no… I need to find my baby Sonya, I need to!’ …sudden calming darkness overcomes her once again.
“Good morning, Ms. Ramsey, how are we feeling today?” Cynthia began to groan as she began to rub her eyes to see who was talking to her. ‘who are you?’ “well Ms. Ramsey, good morning! my name is nurse Penny and I will be taking care of you today…” Cynthia immediately remembered she needed to find out the whereabouts of her daughter Sonya, yet she realized she needed to calm down in order to get some answers.
‘Can anyone please tell me where my daughter is?’ Cynthia said in a methodical way in order to remain calm.
“Ms. Ramsey, please understand that we are doing our best to take proper care of you so you get well soon. As far as to the whereabouts of your daughter, we cannot help you but… you may ask the detective when he comes over to visit you this afternoon. Anywhooo, breakfast is here, Ms. Ramsey! are we ready to eat?” Cynthia could do nothing more than to groan to herself.
“Oh my gosh… I feel so out of it” Cynthia said to herself as she woke up from her nap. “Hmmm, I must’ve dozed off after breakfast. what time is it?” she said out loud as if somebody was there to answer her. She became aware of the din banter of a noon newscast coming out of the small hospital tv. “I never understood why hospitals use such stupid crap to make sure nobody steals their tv’s, …idiots!” Cynthia eyes focused on the time being showed on the tv screen. “12:24pm? well, at least the detective will be showing up; …hopefully soon”.
“Hello Ms. Ramsey. my name is detective Lopez, 911 answered a distress call coming from your cell phone at approximately 2:20am. When authorities arrived at your home, they found you laying down on the floor of your living room with a fairly large sized wound on the back of your head”. “we understand you’ve been asking for a ‘Sonya’. may I ask… who is she?” “SHE IS MY DAUGHTER! My husband took her after he hit me in the head with something…” Cynthia’s voice seemed to trail at the repulsive thought of being married to that monster. “Ms. Ramsey, we will need details in order to find the whereabouts of your daughter as well as your husband.” “Please find her! please… she is not safe with him!” “We will do our best, Ms. Ramsey; for now… it is imperative that you get some rest so you can help us find your daughter, we need as much details as possible.
Cynthia mind began to go over the events of the last 24 hours, relating them to detective Lopez “I can’t believe I let this get this bad, this is not fair… I want my Sonya baby”.
Cynthia began of think of random things to get her mind off of her baby.
“You know what?” she asked herself. “I wish things were back to normal, I miss my life…” she found her voice trailing off as if realizing of something that she had forgot about. “dang, I even miss my PS3 and playing games with my little Sonya. she sure loved playing with her PSP right next to mommy!” Cynthia’s mood became quiet… and she quietly reflected to herself, “I even miss some of my PS Home friends…, I know if I could log on and hang out the Dolphy races with my friends, everything would be alright… yes, everything would be alright”.
Cynthia forced herself back to reality at the absurdity of thinking of a trivial video game at a time like this.
“Now I know I am crazy…” Cynthia kept her eyes shut and muttered to herself as she amusingly found herself moving her fingers into the position of holding an imaginary video game controller.
