Assassins Creed Revelations is developed and published by Ubisoft Montreal and is the 4th iteration of the series. You play as Ezio Auditore da Firenze, and experienced assassin looking for the answer to an enigmatic mystery that has eluded him for decades. The year is now 1511 AD and Ezio’s journey leads him to Constantinople were he quickly aligns himself with the local chapter of assassins lead by Yusuf Tazim. Although Yusuf is much younger than Ezio he has a few tricks up his sleeve and Ezio proves once and for all that you can teach an old dog new tricks.

The true protagonist Desmond Miles lay comatose in an assassin instillation that remains unseen. This situation is alluded to via random, ghostly and sporadic dialogue over heard by Desmond’s unconscious mind.
If you’re familiar with the previous iterations of the series you will be happy to know that all of the previous platforming elements are still intact. Although the, much missed, horse riding in the city doesn’t return the city is sprinkled with zip lines that the local assassins use for fast travel and strategic assassinations.
Players can still purchase property and renovate in order to increase profit throughout the game. The Assassin’s Guild management returns as well as the ability to capture and occupy certain parts of the world; however Ubisoft has found a way to amalgamate the two features.

In the previous iteration, once a district was captured players would progress throughout the game unchallenged. In ACR districts are under constant attack from Templar’s forcing Ezio to drop what he’s doing to return to said district and defend it using a tower defense minigame. The tower defense game is very similar to the one found in PlayStation®Homes Abstergo Labs public space. While the game is entertaining the first few times I was forced to play, it quickly became a grinding and unpleasant experiences. To avoid having to play the tower defense minigame players need to place a master assassin in the respective district. And the only way to get a master assassin is to level them using the Assassin’s Guild management feature.

This iteration also introduces the Hookblade. An upgrade to the standard assassins blade that allows Ezio to climb obstacles faster and use the before mentioned zip lines. There is also a bomb manufacturing feature. Using ingredients found through out the game players can construct bombs designed to distract, destroy or obscure.

The story for ACR doesn’t let us down in the least. All of the puzzling loopholes are unraveled in a very satisfying climax. The story of Altiar (The vassal protagonist from the original game) ends and so does Ezio’s, however Desmond’s story is far from over; leading us to believe that the next Assassin Creed game will feature a new timeline and ancestor of Desmond.

The multiplayer is much of the same save for the coop missions that will entertain players long enough. The feature is there for those of us that like that sort of thing.

Assassins Creed Revelation is a fine game to say the least, it innovates, captivates and tells a great story. If you can find time to run through this 10-15 hour quest I recommend you do so.
