EU court says you have the right to sell used games

Games are a funny thing, some people like to think we own the games we buy, but publishers would rather you think of it as a licence to play them and that you don’t own anything at all. Well in a win for consumer rights a court in the EU has declared that if you own a game it is your right to sell it if you wish. Regardless of licenses, agreements, or other anti-consumer roadblocks.

But this is not just physical games, this ruling will force companies like Steam to give you the ability to transfer your games to someone else. The ability to tranfer the rights to a digital copy of a game has not really been seen or done before, so this could be very interesting. Companies like Sony and MS may even have to add such systems to the PSN and Live, but that remains to be seen.

Only time will tell if this kind of ruling will follow suit in the US.
