Prendre un voyage avec moi, we can travel down the Champ Elysees. Whilst sipping on a nice glass of 2005 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, we shall dine on Foie Gras. Leave your cares behind as I take you to the French Riviera in my Aston Martin while discussing the nuances of “Les Enfants du paradis” and the films of Truffaut, Carné, and Godard. Wait a minute… You mean to tell me that you’re not a jet setter who drives the fastest cars, has a house in the Hamptons, leads excursions through the rain forrest, and vacations on the South of France, either!? For those of us not as fortunate as others, at least we have a place to call Home! Now don’t get me wrong, being in Home is nowhere near a substitution for a real vacation. I say get out and experience life and the world as much as you possibly can. Anyone who has been inside of PS Home for a while and had a chance to meet the wide variety of community members knows, that for some this just isn’t financially or even physically possible though. I think it’s great that those people get a chance to live out their fantasies through this virtual world. Aesthetically the French Chateau space is elegant. When first entering, gamers will find themselves inside of the main hall. The down stairs area is wide open with a series of pillars just over to the side where a gift machine, similar to a few of the currently released private spaces, is on the wall. The free reward to be given to your guests is a “classic pastel painting”, and can be hung in any personal space that is owned. A gold chandelier hangs in the middle of the room with a stairway leading to a pillar ridden balcony. One gripe that I had with the space was a lack of additional rooms. The layout for this space to me, resembled the “Gothic Manor” estate. Once you head outside, is a giant patio area which leads into the garden. The middle of the garden contains an area which if you own all parts of the “Mansion” personal space, a fountain will appear. If you do not, the rectangular shaped basin containing the water still appears. You will also hear the running water from the fountain when you are close to it. This didn’t really bother me though. To both sides of the basin were areas with small benches sitting in front of intricately designed sheared hedges. While browsing through the comments on blog.us.playstation.com, I ran across a comment from PlayStation Home Community Manager Locust_Star that caught my eye. When asked if the French Chateau would have additional parts added on, akin to the already existing “Mansion”, Locust_Star responded by saying “The French Chateau is one space only to start. Depending on how well it is received, we may end up offering expansions, but for now the plan is for this to be a...

(The following is an opinion post, the views and opinions expressed within are not those of GamerIndepth, its staff, or anyone else. They belong solely to the author) PlayStation Home has been around for a few years and since the early days, it has been home to several “FAMS” (families). A ’Fam’ in its purest form is a ‘clique’ : … An ‘exclusive’ group of people who usually hang out together, usually sharing common interests. Some FAMS come with their own ‘dress code’, simple things like wardrobe accessories, the color of their ‘pop ups’ Etc. They usually have regular meetings in various venues on Home (usually clubhouses). Most have a type of hierarchy with different dress codes/pop up colors for each level. Some FAMS tend to have the need to recruit others into joining their FAMS with promises of… “we do not have drama”, “we just hang out together” etc. The discussion of ‘FAMS’ in PlayStation Home tend to bring out very volatile reactions from many of us. Some see FAMS as simply random groups of avatars whose sole purpose is to annoy the rest of the PS Home community ( more on that later…) and some see FAMS as dedicated individuals who share the same idealism(s) and who simply enjoy hanging out together; examples of these could be but not limited to The Homelings or The Hammies as two primary examples. The opposite side of FAMS on Home are usually groups of individuals who congregate in different public spaces to battle with other FAMS. or to bully/harass other avatars. These virtual battles involve chat boxes filled with censored and ad-libbed profanity and creative ‘signatures’ displaying the name or tag of their FAMS for all to see. Unfortunately for some of these FAMS, the possibility of having their individual accounts suspended or outright banned due to violating Sony PlayStation Home’s TOS has done little to stop such incidents, so many FAMS simply announce “MIKE UP!” (MIC^) which allows them to join a group channel and thereby have a chat battle thereby not having to type anything which lessens the chances of being suspended/banned. Many PS Home members wish PS Home staff would somehow be able to ‘ban’ FAMS from Home altogether, unfortunately it would more than likely be a case of chopping off one head to have five more appear in its place. FAMS have a bad rap simply because of the actions of some knuckleheads who sole purpose is to fill some delusion in an alternate reality to be some type of ‘gangster’. It would be a safe bet that a ‘gangster’ in real life is not going to go around PS Home acting like one. This is not to say that these FAMS have members in their ranks who probably wouldn’t be able to fight their way out of a paper bag in real life but if it quacks like a duck and walks like a duck…. it takes a few to ruin it for everybody else. I digress… PlayStation Home is a haven for some individuals who simply want to hang out...

On February 14th the demo by SEGA® of America, Inc. and SEGA® Europe Ltd, for the much anticipated third person, squad shooter Binary Domain™ was released to western markets for PlayStation®3 gamers. Today February 15th marks the day that the demo will come full circle and be offered to Xbox 360® gamers. Where does the machine end and humanity begin? 2080 AD Tokyo, Japan. The Amada Corporation break Geneva Code, Clause 21 by creating humanoid robots that believe themselves to be human. These so-called Hollow Children have infiltrated the human population, blurring the lines between man and machine. Dan Marshall and the Rust Crew are tasked to find Amada at all costs. Will the team’s human bond be their greatest strength or will they fall to the machines? Noteworthy Features of the Game: 1. The Consequence System Under the pressures of battle every action, every choice and every word affects everything 2. Procedural Damage Fully destructible and highly resilient robots adapt to the damage they sustain encouraging you to analyze each enemy, find their weaknesses and dispose of them in the most efficient way 3. A new take on futuristic Tokyo Experience dual layered Tokyo with a run down and derelict lower city and a clean and affluent upper city 4. Weapon modification and skill selection Alongside a full armory of unique weapons, put emphasis on the skills that will benefit you 5. Fully immersive multiplayer A wide range of versus and co-op modes allow your experience to be expanded online Players will experience the world of Binary Domain by playing through two of the Rust Crew’s early missions set in near future Tokyo. You’ll take command of Dan Marshall and work together with a squad of teammates from an elite international task-force who watch and react to your every move. Gamers will have to fight highly intelligent robotic opponents and will also get the chance to try out Binary Domain’s ground breaking Consequence System. This system allows you to interact with and influence teammates in a variety of ways never before seen in a third person shooter, By using voice recognition in combat and non-combat situations players have a more natural dialogue with their allies, one which affects their behavior and attitude. Are the robots becoming more humanistic, or are humans becoming more robotic? Binary Domain puts players in the middle of an action packed and intensified battle for humanity itself in robot-invaded Tokyo in the futuristic year of 2080. Fighting through the poverty stricken lower levels of the city that have been bombarded by climate change which has thrown the entire economic system of the once infamous city, players control an international squad of want-to-be peacekeepers that soon start to question their surroundings and the choices they are making at every turn. Binary Domain is a pioneering third-person squad shooter from the creators of the Yakuza series. With a central branching storyline, voice recognition in combat and conversation and...

(The following is an opinion post, the views and opinions expressed within are not those of GamerIndepth, its staff, partners, or anyone else. They belong solely to the author.) February 22nd marks a very historic date in the world of video games, the launch of the PS Vita. Why is this historic? After all, the Vita has been out in Japan for quite some time now and off to a very less than ideal start. Well, this marks the first real competition to the 3DS here in the states, and what I see as the final competition in the dying single function portable gaming market. This is a market that was created, and ruled all under the boot of Nintendo. The Gameboy was the first successful portable handheld game console. It marked the beginning of Nintendo’s utter dominance and monopoly on the market. To put this in perspective, the Gameboy hit market in 1998. It would see 5 new forms, and finally evolve into the Nintendo DS without ever being rivaled by any other console. It wasn’t until 2005 and Sony’s massively powerful PSP that Nintendo would see a rival in the handheld market. While the PSP fought hard to appeal to hardcore fans, it could never reach the DS. Interestingly the strongest competition that Nintendo saw did not come from its rival the PSP, but from the new smartphones. This is where I think the market will shift in the current age. So lets talk about the 2 major portable consoles, the 3DS and the PS Vita. One is a gimmicky beefy DS, and the other is an absolute tech powerhouse with more features and shiny things than I have ever seen before. The 3DS struggled due to a lack of software, headache causing 3D, and a sore lack of a second analog stick. It had to shamefully slash its price to remain competitive with the looming Vita. In contrast the Vita has a tidal wave of software lined up for release, with even more hitting shortly after the unit’s launch. The Vita packs far more power then the 3DS, touch, OLED, 3G, dual analog, and more! However the devices are taking aim at very different groups. Nintendo is doing what it does best, appealing to casual gamers, and more so children. The Vita like its precursor the PSP is shooting for the ever resistant hardcore market. This is where I have my first hangup about Sony. They are going for a very specific market. They are trying to sell a device that delivers console quality games on the go. But why would I want that? I don’t want to play Uncharted on a small screen. I want that on my big HD screen at home. I don’t want to have to pause halfway through an area. I want to sit down and finish that section. What I do want is to quickly battle a few trainers on Pokemon (a constant on my Android phone) or a turn based game. Portable gaming is by...

Reality TV is extremely polarizing. You either get it or you don’t. Many negative things can be said about the types of “celebrities” these shows produce. It could be said that it’s scripted. If you are really watching closely however, you’ll see that although the obstacles and challenges are planned out, the response of the contestants are not. Ultimately the shows are not about what the people are doing, but how they respond emotionally and physically to their surroundings. Season 3 of “The Tester” produced by 51 Minds has arrived. With it comes an all new cast of people determined to fulfill their dreams of working for Sony Computer Entertainment America. As the video game industry continues to rise to the top of mainstream consciousness the inevitable Documentaries and Reality TV shows are arriving. To me this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I like the fact that the prize gives an opportunity to experience working for one of the top companies within the industry, to a person who may not live anywhere near development studios and publishers, or to those of us who do not have connections. Lovely host Meredith Molinari returns as well as panel judges Brent Gocke the SR. Release Manager- First Party QA SCE, and the smoking hot Adrianne Curry. The rotating third judge spot of the gaming industry luminaries will reamain intact this season. On the first episode John Hight Director of Product Development Santa Monica Studio (The Boss) fills that spot. Picture courtesy of usatoday.com The contestants for the third season are: Kwajamonster - Kaila Nemoto Skyd1ddy - Skyler Harper Asuukaa - Nicole Dormer J-Tight - Joel Alexander Krystipryde - Krysti Pruden Egoraptor - Arin Hanson BurnNibelheim - Shaunette DeTie RealityPalez - Charles Weichselbaum Ashichan - Ashphord Jacoway Ninjanomyx - Richard Lugo Suzkaiden - Lissarette Vazquez Akilleezmight - Wilson Santiago Par for the course, season 3 starts off with the 12 contestants in a van traveling to their loft. As the cameras capture the moments leading up to their destination, there is a sense of their obvious nervousness and excitement. Who wouldn’t be though. Knowing that a chance at winning your dream job is literally right around the corner. Speaking into the confession cam reveals more about the characters. We learn about their motives for being there and get to see more of their personality. Krystipryde seems like a kick a$$ take no prisoners type. J-Tight to me seems like an underdog. Personally, I root for the underdog, being one myself. J-Tight reminds me of a good friend of mine that can probably do his thing, but just needs a little bit of guidance and for someone to give him a shot. Skyd1ddy gives off a youthful exuberance. Ninjanomyx is definitely the comic relief. Straight from NY he tries to come across with hip hop swag, but is more of that goofy friend type.
