This first issue has some stunning graphics done by Agustin Alessio. While the supporting players tend to resemble each other quite a bit initially, the detail is much more than I would have expected to find in a comic book. The cover art by Dave Wilkins suggests a major presence by our little buddy Darth Vader, writer Haden Blackman has used him in more of a cameo role for this first edition. As the story begins, we get to know our main character Laurita Tohm through a series of report entries, thought processes, and visual aides as he and many other recruits make their way to a graduation ceremony in the Imperial City on Coruscant. The initial dialog between Tohm and his fellow graduates gives you a sense that he wouldn’t have been classified as the popular party boy at the academy, but instead resigned himself to the role of a loner. I can only guess that Tohm survived some sort of accident or attack that ravaged his body forcing him to throw himself into his studies rather than socialize. As they arrive in the city, they are swallowed up in the faceless masses of thousands, all here for one purpose, to graduate and receive their first post assignments. Or are they? Presiding over the gathering is Headmaster Gentis. One look at his weathered face tells you he has seen more than his share of conflicts, battles, and stress as he welcomes the newest members to the Empire. As quickly as it began the ceremony is finished and everyone heads off for the usual celebrations. Just when we think that Tohm might allow himself to enjoy his accomplishments and relax a little with the other recruits, his party is cut short. What ensues after this point, I won’t reveal. You will have to read it for yourself.

ShiftyLook has a “Spectacular” event on the 26th of May at 8:00PM. This is happening in conjunction with MCM Expo, which is England’s version of Comic-Con (it will get more than 60,000 people). The event will be after the show floor closes, so it’s pretty much one of the marquee events of the weekend. It’s free to attend, and has live music from the gamer band Area 11. Area 11 are a Bristol-based rock band, who are combining Western rock guitar traditions with Eastern culture to establish a new genre – Gaijin Rock! Taking their cue from the music found in popular Japanese animation, the band mix punishing lead guitar lines, synth hooks and soaring vocals to deliver a polished and upbeat sound, which is both familiar and unique. Source If your not familiar with the unique sound of Area11 have a look at this vid! Plus, they’re have stand-up comedy and cool guests, one of which is this designer called JamFactory (real name: Gavin Strange) who works for Aardman Animations by day and will have the actual Wallace & Gromit puppets with him! If you plan on attending be sure to head over to ShiftyLooks Sign up page to let them know your coming! Link About MCM Expo: Comic Con (Comics Convention) started many years ago, the most notable was in San Diego, USA in 1970. The show is now a four day event attracting over 125,000 people and extensive press coverage. There are a huge number of these conventions now held around the world in almost every major market. Visitors are extremely active online and generate huge volumes of social media exposure and buzz. Taking part in live events is a proven way to build brand awareness and reach consumers via complimentary marketing activities but more importantly it is a way of associating your brand or product through consumer perception and experiences. The shows are a sure fire why to influence a huge number of people via their social network groups. We believe you will find MCM Expo an exciting opportunity for your brand and products.
San Diego, CA (May 18, 2012) – Joe Kubert is one of the most lauded artists in the history of comics, a true living legend. He has been a vital creative force since the 1940s and remains so to this day. He has had defining runs on Hawkman, Enemy Ace, Tor, Sgt. Rock, and many others. Among his career highlights is Tarzan of the Apes, and Kubert’s rendition could arguably be called the definitive comic adaptation of the Ape-man. “To have the Tarzan stories I drew commemorate the 100th anniversary of a strip I fell in love with as a kid is the thrill of a lifetime,” said Joe Kubert, writer and artist of all the stories in this Artist’s Edition. This Artist’s Edition collects six complete Kubert Tarzan adventures, including the classic four-part origin story. Each page is vividly reproduced from the original art and presented as no comics readers have seen before. For fans of Kubert and Tarzan, this new entry in the Eisner-winning Artist’s Edition line must be seen to be believed! 2012 is the centennial year for Tarzan. Created by master storyteller Edgar Rice Burroughs, Tarzan is instantly recognizable to countless fans around the globe. Other notable creations of Burroughs’ include John Carter of Mars, Korak, Carson of Venus, and At the Earth’s Core. “I first read these comics when I was 10 years old, and they remain some of my favorite stories ever,” said Editor Scott Dunbier, “this is Joe Kubert at his absolute best.” What is an Artist’s Edition? Artist’s Editions are printed the same size as the original art. While appearing to be in black & white, each page has been scanned in COLOR to mimic as closely as possible the experience of viewing the actual original art—for example, you are able to clearly see paste-overs, blue pencils in the art, editorial notes, and art corrections. Each page is printed the same size as drawn, and the paper selected is as close as possible to the original art board. JOE KUBERT’S TARZAN OF THE APE: ARTIST’S EDITION ($100, hardcover, black and white, 156 pages, 12” x 17”) will be available in stores September 2012. Visit IDWPublishing.com to learn more about the company and its top-selling books.
One of the many features of Valve’s Steam digital distribution platform is the idea of “pre-loading” basically it lets you download a game before release under heavy lock and key, then come midnight the lock falls off and the game is ready to go before anyone can even get in their car to drive home from Gamestop. This method has been sorely missing on consoles, for example PSN featured digital pre orders of Mass Effect 3 but you could not preload the game. As a result I had to get up at 3AM to que my download of Mass Effect 3 when it came out on PSN (yes i set an alarm and got up at 3AM to que that game so it was ready to go for me the next day.) But those days are long behind us! Because starting with the PS Move game Sorcery it seems Sony will allow games to be preloaded to a console before release! Side note did you know that game is coming out super soon, like next week! I didn’t know and I am excited! [ Source ]
